Not sure if I can pull off this hat upstate. In NYC it wouldn’t get much more than the occasional admirable glance. Upstate? Oh man.
Let me tell you about the time I ran into Diane Keaton. She was in my sleepy little town perusing the local antique center. I truly think I was the only person who recognized her. She was very annoyed that people were looking at her and started making a bit of a fuss. I couldn’t take it anymore, I leaned over and said “it’s not you – it’s the hat”. She was wearing a rather large top hat, on a Saturday, in a little upstate town.
Anyway, my Philip Treacy/Warhol hat has me on cloud 9. I traded 5 Steve Keene paintings to a co-worker for it. I love Steve Keene, but I’ve got dozens of his paintings and I’ve run out of room. Voila. Instant switcharoo. I don’t think I can personally pull this hat off upstate — so we’ll be saving it for fanciful grocery runs in the NYC area or maybe – a day at the races.

That’s a truly lovely hat, and yes, you probably can’t get away with it in Upstate without being ogled and snickered at. But who cares?!
