Hoping to have a tag sale on Saturday. The garage is bursting at the seams…tools, knick knacks, books, fabric, furniture and perhaps the craptastic crafty thing for added humiliation. Course this means I have to actually wake up early and haul the stuff from the back of the house to the front of the house. The Fiance made fun of me for making PRETTY tags with ribbons. Hey, I know marketing! Hah!

In case you were wondering what 42nd Street looked like at 9:25 this morning…

OK, so umm, I put some fabric over the windows in the bookshelf. I didn’t want anything too dark and I didn’t want a pattern…here’s the before and after…

and after-ish…

It looks kinda lame…maybe burlap would look better? Thoughts? I can’t “gather” the fabric or the doors won’t close. I didn’t do the lower level yet…since I wasn’t totally sold on the uppers.

I’m a lurker. But….I love the bookcase windows uncovered – that’s the first thing I do when I go into someone’s house – check out what’s on their bookcases.
Says a lot about me…and them.

The Fiance doesn’t like having them covered – but I’m struggling with how to NOT make it look cluttered…it’s books, dvd, a few knick knacks and the Fiance’s Grandmother’s pillow which we fear the cat will hurl on. I refuse to do that thing where people RECOVER books in one color pallette. That makes me angry! LOL
Would you consider using a sheer fabric? Something that will hide the clutter but if you look close you can still see inside?
humm.. maybe you could use a more sheer fabric? I think the tags look NICE.
I like the Before pic better. I also like to see what’s on/in people’s bookshelves. It tells a lot about who lives there and makes your home …well, a home. Maybe you could corral some of the clutter, such as the DVD’s by putting them in a few fun containers. There’s a wide assortment of those out there. Try HomeGoods for a good, inexpensive selection or IKEA. Btw, I love that bookcase. Don’t forget the top of the bookcase too. You could stack a few decorative boxes up there with items you don’t need to reach/use often. If you feel you need to hide some things, how about just fabric on the bottom portion? I’d like to see a vibrant print there or use some fabric that you have elsewhere in the room, such as that pillow?
I like the clear glass as well; I’m snoopy, and love looking at other people’s books.
Or how about some sort of glass decal, to give it that etched look?
OK number one I’m coming to that Tag sale if it kills me!
Number two – the cabinet looks rad as is (before). I say deal with the “clutter”. I actually think it looks nice – I love an overstuffed library. But… if you must cover it I like joanne’s suggestion. I’ve used the frosted glass spray paint and it looks great. That might be the solution.
Okay, could you paste your cute tags all over the windows? No?
I used a sweet toille (or toyle as Rechelle says) on the inside of one of my hutches that holds all our bedding. I really like it. So, if you insist on covering it use some fun fabric girl and give the people somethin’ to look at.
I say clean the carp up in there and leave it be!
Love that red bookcase – but I really love the sweet little bird tags. I’m flying in for that sale — with all the stuff you acquire, who knows what you might be getting rid of?
l also don’t like the fabric. If you use fabric, use a small light, print instead.
OK! Ok! Ok! Will take the fabric down and declutter…it’s just that I will declutter it and sort it and organize and then the Fiance will cram it up with stuff again….
What about replacing the glass with a textured glass. I did that in my kitchen and really like that the colors of the glassware/dishes show through, but it is slightly blurred by the glass. You can go to a stained glass shop for the glass (usually cheaper there) and they will even cut it for you. I do a little stained glass and did my own.
ps – I’m a lurker too – love your site-
Could you etch the glass? I am pro-cover, I think, but DVD cases make me itchy.
Speaking of itchy, did you see India Hicks and her brown-paper-covered library in Domino a few months ago? Good on you for refusing to drink that Kool-Aid.
