We went to see the Mamma Mia! movie last night. If this doesn’t become “the new Rocky Horror Picture Show” I will eat my hat. We had the luxury of seeing it in one of NYC’s most famous theatres, the Ziegfeld and the place was PACKED. That’s a good thing. Having a big crowd really sets the tone for your experience. People were clapping and singing along and at the end of particularly campy scenes they were screaming (and clapping) with laughter. The level of “PURE FUN” was AWESOME. The plot itself is weak – but look past that. Go…have a good time…sneak in a bottle of white wine (cocktails would make this completely over the top!). And ladies…let us not forget THIS:

In one of the scenes Meryl Streep is dancing through her clothes line…almost all of the sheets are Josef Frank designs. Funny, he’s Swedish, she’s poor & in Greece…hell I can’t even afford bits of Josef Frank fabric and she’s got skads of sheets! Still, it’s visually amazing.I can’t remember exactly which pattern it was, but it was one of his whirling dervish ones similar to this…
Christine Baranski was hysterical (seen here in teal tu-tu) and stole the show several times.

She was CAMP in all CAPS. I’ve run into Christine more than any other celeb (that I don’t manage) over the years – be it on Amtrak, at Rolling Stones concerts or in NYC shops. She’s sort of everywhere…
In other news, I’ve spray painted my fingers blue so it must be Saturday…

Ahem:
“I’ve run into Christine more than any other celeb (that I don’t manage)”?
Watch it, Heather. Your up-chuck factor’s rising.
That said: are we yummying at Pierce or Colin? (I hope I’m safe in assuming it’s not Stellan.)
I found a site selling Joseph Frank fabrics, and now you have me coveting something I can’t afford. Wah!
Erin – You forget…I managed bands before I managed writers! I am artist hag from way back.
Joanne – I think the upholstery at Anthropologie is his “stuff” as well. Sigh.
where can you buy Josef Frank fabrics online?
Sarah – Check with high end Scandinavian home stores/sites and possibly Anthopologie (they upholster much of their furniture with his patterns).
I love me some Christine. Saw the musical when it was in LA with very highschool tallent show level actors. But it was still kinda fun. You don’t really go into an Abba medley show expecting high culture do ya? Anyway on to the JF fabric. I have a a huge hand me down tray (hand me down – fancy friends) with one of his print son it that is gorgeous but I can’t really make work anywhere. Its big enough that you could make it a table if you wanted to. I’ll put it out there for trade if you ever have something else cool you can’t use in your place. Just sayin…
I was coerced into seeing Mamma Mia (the play), which ended up being great… as for the movie version, sounds fun, though it’s awkward to think of ol’ Pierce trying to sing, yeeesh
